The most popular variety is epoxy resin obtained on the basis of glycidyl ether of bisphenol A, formed by polycondensation of bisphenol A and epichlorohydrin. This is the so-called oxygen resin. What features are inherent in epoxy resins and in which company is it worth buying such products? Where is it used and what points are important to take into account here?
Operational properties and applications
Epoxy resin, which can be bought in a specialized company, is distinguished by several important features: optimal physical and mechanical parameters, slight shrinkage, increased resistance to abrasives, minimal moisture permeability (after curing), a solid level of strength of the adhesive joint (when using epoxy-based glue).
This product began to be actively used in the 50s of the last century. At that time, it was most in demand mainly in industrial sectors — for the production of goods for various purposes. Today, the main areas of application of epoxy resins are the following:
• mechanical engineering — production of bearings, springs, tooling, stamps and special purpose containers;
• construction — creation of paint and varnish materials, production of pipes, filling of self-leveling floors, waterproofing of the pool and basement walls, marking roads;
• shipbuilding — manufacture of propellers and fuel tanks, creation of ship hulls;
• rocket and aircraft industry — production of gas tanks and tanks, covering of aircraft wings and helicopter blades;
• radio engineering — filling of transformers, insulation of wires and cables;
• repair of equipment and furniture of different sizes and purpose;
• decor — creation of unique creative items, women's and men's jewelry;
• everyday life — gluing of metal, leather, plastic products.
Epoxy resin is rarely used in its pure form. Basically, it is mixed with a hardener. Thanks to this, it is possible to achieve the complete completion of polymerization reactions. The product is also present in the composition of various building mixes, for example, putty and tile glue.
