It is used in medicine, irreplaceable in metallurgy (contained in alloys valuable for many industries). It is even added to many food products (listed as “additive E507” in the list of ingredients). The liquid is isolated by sulfate and synthetic methods, as well as from off-gases. The latter method is the most common in industry (90% of the acid produced is passed through it).

Precautions and Transportation

Refers to hazardous substances of class 2. A very caustic liquid for the skin (contact with it leads to extremely difficult to heal burns), causes coughing, as well as redness of the mucous membranes of the eyes. It is transported in rubber-lined containers and cisterns, polyethylene barrels by rail and road closed transport. Store in caustic-resistant containers in dry rooms with good ventilation. Work with hydrochloric acid in respirators and tight-fitting goggles, rubber boots and gloves.
