Glutaraldehyde is a very complex compound that has a yellowish, sometimes brownish tint. E262 is a chemical compound belonging to the class of aldehydes. E262 has a pungent odor, which in its pure form resembles the smell of vinegar. Aldehydes are also called: acetaldehyde, villeraldehyde, undecalactone, myrtenol, valerenal, furforol, aprolein, optaldehyde, ethanol, and valeral.
Combinations with aqueous solutions are possible (therefore, this disinfectant is widely used in various spheres of human activity). Also soluble in alcohols, methyltrichloride, toluene, in particular, it is miscible with benzene.
Using glutaraldehyde
This substance is primarily used as an antiseptic for a wide range of uses. Perfectly destroys bacteria and fungal spores and destroys viral compounds. Thanks to this, it has gained such extensive use in this area.
This element is often used in animal husbandry. They are provided with wet disinfection of general premises. They also disinfect wagons and ventilated containers after transporting animals. In particular, it is used in the sheep breeding segment, in the processing of raw materials, food packaging. It is used for processing workwear and items for general prevention and minimization of the spread of diseases.
Glutaraldehyde disinfects and destroys such diseases as: Escherichiosis, paratyphoid fever, aspergillosis, erysipelas. It is used for African fever in pigs, hemorrhagic septicemia, listerllosis, undulatory fever, various types of tuberculosis, foot and mouth disease and, in particular, for dermatomycosis. Before disinfection with glutaraldehyde in rooms / wagons / any equipment must be thoroughly cleaned with an automatic water supply line. Then disinfect. At the same time, animals and poultry should not be in the pens.
How to correctly make a working mixture?
Naturally, all cases are individual and each option is made according to the necessary conditions. But still, consider the standard options for disinfection:
- for the purpose of prevention, a 0.3% water mixture will do. Exposure period - 3 minutes;
- if cattle or poultry are infected with tuberculosis, a 1% mixture will be required. The best option for irrigating premises is 1 liter per square meter of area. Time to kill - 4 minutes;
- if the fight against serious ailments provoked by especially strong microorganisms is expected, the solution should be 2% concentration. Irrigation is carried out at the rate of 1.5 liters per 1 m2. Disinfection is carried out in two passes. The holding interval between sprays is 5 minutes. If the rooms are large in meters, then the first spraying of the glutaraldehyde solution will be completed completely and in the primary part 5 minutes have already passed and the procedure can be repeated in a new circle.
Then it is necessary to rinse the drinking bowls and feeders with clean water and, in addition, carry out ventilation and complete drying of all treated rooms. And only after these manipulations should the cattle and poultry be introduced back.
- in the fight against trichophytosis of cattle and in the eradication of poultry aspergillosis, this medication must have a 4% concentration (at least, otherwise there will be an ineffective use case). When spraying, use a concentration of one liter per square meter. Consumption - 1 liter for an area of 1 m2. Exposure for about 3 minutes.
- the treatment of wagons and containers for transportation is carried out with a stronger solution containing 5% glutaraldehyl. Etching is done once, by spraying 1 liter per meter;
General information regarding treatment: the implementation of aerosol treatments will require compliance with a number of measures: t of the atmosphere - no less than 15 ° С, environmental moisture - 60% or more. In the event that the humidity is less than the specified 60 percent, before disinfection measures, spray the room with tap water at a rate of 10 milliliters per m2).
- disinfecting planes, furnishings;
- cleaning the honey instrument and endoscopes;
- implement industrial water treatment.
Glutaraldehyde is also used in public organizations (in hotels, hostels, gyms, beauty salons and sports complexes).
Another area of its use is aquaristics. Disinfection is carried out after catching fish, crabs and cleaning snails. Then everything inside is disinfected, allowed to stand for 5-10 minutes and thoroughly washed out with running water. After which all living organisms are launched back.
Disinfection of swimming pools with glutaraldehyde. This method allows you to immediately destroy bacteria, destroy all types of fungi, as well as unicellular aquatic plants. What is important, since the water and the walls of the pool do not turn green!
How to defrost glutaraldehyde?
In order for the substance to thaw - the raw materials used should be brought into a building with a heating system and stored until completely thawed. It is also worth storing the product in a closed container. The use of this reagent is permissible for years after production.
